Q: What printer do we recommend for the label printing? Client has Seiko 100 S2 and wants to use it.  We have tried it on two versions of Focus and it DOES NOT WORK BUT it works with the Seiko software that came with it.  A: Older generation label printers work only with the software that comes with the printer. Beginning in version 1.3 and above Focus Reports can print a report using a command line parameter. Only one user can see Focus
Q: You can see focus reports in MediSoft only if you are logged on under the main windows admin account.  If you're logged in remotely as any other user, connected to the same computer, you cannot see focus.  We'd like for everyone to be able to see them.  How can we do this? This error should only occur after a new install of Report Server.  If this error occured after upgrading Report Server please call technical support and do not continue with the instructions below. Using Focus Reports with multiple versions of MediSoft
Reports designed with Focus Reports version 4 are compatible with all supported versions of MediSoft (7, 8, 9, 10 and 11) with no special changes required. Error: Failed to get data for ItemLinkCount
MediSoft must be launched and a practice opened before installation of Focus Reports. Launching MediSoft places an entry in the Windows registry that defines settings for the MediSoft menu. Focus Reports uses these settings to place the Focus Reports selection on the MediSoft menu. This error can also occur of you are trying to install a version of Focus Reports that isn't as current as the version of MediSoft you're using. Error - Invalid variant
An Invalid Variant... error when importing a report into Focus Reports indicates a problem with the report template file. This error is frequently caused by emailing a report template. "Not Responding" while importing reports
When entering Focus Reports for the first time, the program imports all of the newly installed reports.  All of the reports which are using customized SQL must be checked against the Medisoft database.  If the current database is very large it will appear that the importing process is "not responding."  One solution is to just wait for the importing to go all of the way through, which may take up to several minutes.  A second solution is to: 1) Cancel out of the import process (Ctrl + (... more)

Focus Reports selection disappears from the MediSoft/NDCMedisoft menu
Symptom: Focus Reports menu selection disappears from MediSoft menu. Background: Focus Reports menu information is stored in the MediSoft section of the Windows registry. When MediSoft opens, the program reads its menu settings from the registry. Later, when MediSoft closes, it writes its menu settings to the registry. Where is the transaction notes field found?
Q: I just updated our Focus Reports to the Professional product so that I can more easily custom create reports. Currently, In transaction entry, you can add notes.  These notes state that they are for internal use only. Error - MediSoft program directory cannot be determined
The source of this error is a missing Windows Registry entry that specifies the location of the MediSoft program files. Focus Reports uses this information to locate a file named lastcon.cfg. This file tells Focus Reports whether the MediSoft data tables should be opened in local (single-user, on the local computer) mode or remote (client/server, on the database server) mode. Error 7200, Invalid SQL Statement
An error 7200 will occur when a data query is invalid. Causes of this error can include incorrectly formed SQL syntax, an invalid comparison operator in a query, and missing comparison criteria. Note for Focus Reports Version 2: When a user does not have Office Hours appointment files, importing reports that use these files will produce a 7200 error. Focus Reports disappears from MediSoft/NDCMedisoft menu - Get it back automatically (for ASP hosted environments)
In Focus Reports version 2 and above you can put the Focus Reports selection on the menu automatically every time a user logs in. When running an ASP-style hosted server, use the setmmenu.exe program to automatically place the Focus Reports menu selection on the MediSoft menu. Setmmenu.exe makes the necessary Windows registry changes for the menu, then can launch a program when it's finished. Symptom: Focus Reports Print Engine requires registration information to be entered every time the report explorer is launched. Q: How do i get to the screen that asks what practices to attach Focus Reports to? A new practice added after installation is showing Focus Reports on task bar but not additional tab fields in patient/case etc and reports are saying no data available. Error 7008 installing Money Matters
Money Matters must be installed in the computer where your MediSoft data files reside and all users must exit MediSoft before beginning the installation. This is required because two parts of the installation routine open the Advantage database table in Local Server mode. Error 6420 - The discovery process for the Advantage Database Server failed
Background Focus Reports uses the Advantage Database Server to protect data from network-induced problems and to speed access to the data. Focus Reports software must discover the database server. To do this, a message is sent across the network to the other computers. The database server computer responds with information to allow Focus Reports to connect to the database server. Q: I have installed the Print Engine at my client's office (Medisoft 7.01). Reports are present and work. After some time, the menu item, on the Medisoft menu, disappears and they can not find their reports. What causes this? and, How can I prevent it from happening? They only run their reports monthly, so it takes less than a month to disappear. Exactly when it goes away is unclear at this time. Focus Reports registration is stored in the Windows registry. Registration information can be removed by editing the registry. Warning: It is possible to make registry setting changes that will permanently disable a computer. Using a new printer with Focus Reports
Focus Reports will print reports on any Windows-compatible printer installed and usable on the computer running Focus Reports. This includes local and network printers. What is a subreport?
A subreport can be used for many things: 1. A "report within a report" to print multiple reports at once. Create a subreport for each report you want to add. 2. The detail portion of a master/detail report. Use a subreport to present data in a way that isn't possible in the main report. Subreports use different queries and permit unique data manipulation. 3. How can I print a Flash Report for the prior month or year?
Date filters for all Flash Reports are chosen automatically based on the current date. A Flash Report can be printed for a prior period by changing the date on the computer running the Advantage Database server. Changing the date on a client computer has no effect in a networked MediSoft environment -- The date must be changed on the database server. Primary Insurance Aging Summary (MediSoft look-alike report) balances on Focus Reports version of report and MediSoft version of report do not match
The MediSoft version of this report does not include guarantor payments. The Focus Reports version of the report subtracts guarantor payments from the total due. When an insurance carrier has completely paid a charge, the Complete check box must be checked to remove a paid charge from the report. Printing data selection criteria on a report or title page
Data filters used to select information for a report may be printed on a report cover page or in the heading of each page of the report. While editing a repoprt in Focus Reports Developer: 1. On the menu, click Report | Title to open a new Title band on the visual designer. 2. Right click the Title band and select New Page. This will separate the title page information from the body of the report if desired. 3. Place a Memo field in the title band and be certain the field is named Memo1. (... more)
Canvas does not allow drawing error
This is a Windows error caused by low GDI (Graphic Device Interface) resources. This error can occur when too many programs are open or the open programs are using a large amount of Windows resources. The MediSoft Case window is an example of a particularly large user of Windows resources. The MediSoft Case window uses a large amount of resources because of the number of controls (data fields) in the window. Creating a chart or graph
Focus Reports Developer can create virtually any type of chart or graph from MediSoft data. Follow these steps to create a chart or graph: Create queries to supply the information for the chart or graph. The result table should contain only the information to be used for the chart or graph, generally a label field and a value for each label. Problem: An SQL error occurs when printing any of the three Productivity and Retention Statistics reports in Focus on Chiropractic. Error 7008
Report Explorer (Print Engine) opens properly, but trying to print or preview a report produces an error 7008. The Focus Reports Print Engine needs to know the location of the MediSoft data files and whether the data tables are local (single-user, on the local computer) or remote (client/server, on the database server). Search field not showing drop down box
Q: How is it determined which fields have the drop down box "...." indicated on the search screen?  Also, is there a way to customize the look of the search screen? Printing to one off label printer
Q: Medisoft software only accounts for full sheets of labels being printed. We use a Seiko SLP printer, it has a roll of labels and you print one at a time. After consulting with Medisoft, it seems they have no intention of supporting this kind of printer. Do you have any capability to support these printers? Flash report date filters
Q: How can I expand the date range of The Flash Report-YTD? I need a financial year, not a calendar year. A: Both flash reports use a date range calculated in an SQL statement. This statement retrieves the current date and back dates the report to the beginning of the calendar year through today. Q: If I click "Auto Search" or "Mandatory" for a field on the Search tab in the Query Designer, a box appears for me to check or uncheck. I can't get a box to appear under "Show All" for me to make a selection. RAP code is used in Focus Reports Developer to give users a high level of control over the data included in a report and the layout of a report. RAP is an acronym for Report Application Pascal. No data found for this report
This error indicates that a data filter (also called a search) excluded all possible data for the report. The likely cause of this error is that a data filter in a query is set in such a way that it excludes all data in the data MediSoft set currently in use. Troubleshoot this error by examining the queries created for the report. How does it determine which carriers will be included in the graph for "new patient by carrier"?
Q: When running the new patient by carrier report I am getting 3 carriers and then one group, which is 53% of the new patients called "other". How does Focus Reports decide which carriers it is going to include in the graph? A: The report determines which carriers should be placed in the Other group based upon the percentage of each carriers' "pie" slice. Using an outer join
A join specifies how MediSoft tables relate to one another. An example of this relationship is how the transaction table relates to the patient table through a chart number. Joins created in a Focus Reports Developer query are inner joins by default. An inner join in our patient/transaction example above would retrieve data in a result table when a record in the patient table matches (through the chart number) a record in the transaction table. Creating a join
A Join relates data tables. If the transaction and patient table are joined, this allows any field from the transaction table and any field from the patient table to be used in a report. On the Tables tab in the query designer, select two tables for a query, the transaction and patient tables for example. System variables
A system variable is used to print the date, time, document name, or page count. After a system variable is placed in a band in the visual designer, the content of the system variable may be edited using one of the developer's tool bars. Designing a data export format for Word, Excel, Access and other programs
Create a data export report format following the same procedure as for a printed report. To define the data export, from the Design tab in the developer go to the File menu and select Print to File Setup. Error 6316 - Advantage Client Version Newer Than Advantage Server Version
You are attempting to run Focus Reports with the wrong version of the Advantage Database Server (ADS). Focus Reports (developer and print engine) version 1.21 and above supports either ADS version 5 (standard with MediSoft version 6.x) or version 6 (standard with MediSoft version 7.x). Developer (or print engine) will not export report
When attempting to export a report the developer will not display the file export window. This problem is caused by a character in the report name that Windows will not accept in a file name. Focus Reports Developer automatically uses the report name as the default file name for an exported report. Avoiding dublicate records in a report
Question: I need to print a report based on case data.  How can I avoid duplicate records if I need to run the report based on patient chart number or patient last and first name? Answer: Duplicates can be eliminated using the Group tab in the Query Designer window. Valid query and data pipeline names
A query name is automatically assigned by Focus Reports Developer. When creating a query where the case file is the primary table, the query/datapipeline name will automatically be assigned as Case . This name is unacceptable when uusing a field from the query in a calculation because Case is a reserved word in the RAP code language. Cannot Generate Report. Could not run program: (Event listed here) Calculations (Calc tab) are event driven. When code entered for a calculation produces an error, this error displays. Software registration: retrieving an unlock code from Inborne Technology registration server
Dealers purchase Focus Reports products unregistered. When a product is sold to an end-user or installed for use in the dealer's office, a registration unlock code must be generated and entered in the registration window to unlock the software. Generate a user unlock code in developer
Use the Generate User Unlock Code window on the Developer menu to issue a unique unlock code to each purchaser of a report. Insert a subreport by clicking the subreport button on the Advanced Components tool bar while the visual designer workspace is displayed. Import or export a data query
Focus Reports Developer permits data queries to be exported for use in other reports. This feature lets you create a query set and use it over and over in other similar reports. The SQL tab in the query designer shows the SQL statements produced as a result of the entries made in the Query Designer window. Grouping in a query allows the query to summarize information. The developer can group in the query or in the visual designer. Cannot generate report
Incorrect syntax in RAP code will cause this error. To find the offending statement, click the Calc tab in the developer and follow the red flags until you have browsed down the tree to the error. Correct the syntax. Click on another branch in the Report Bands tree and the code will be recompiled. Accumulating totals with RAP code

Install Developer for MediSoft Version 6 or 7?
